Mercury concentrations in domestic and imported canned bivalves and cephalopods sold in northwestern Mexico

Mercury (Hg) is mainly incorporated into humans through the consumption of contaminated foods. was measured and methyl-Hg (MeHg) concentration estimated in canned mollusks sold northwestern Mexico to assess health risk consumers. Five mollusk types were considered: oysters, clams, octopuses, mussels, squids. The Hg mussels significantly (P < 0.05) lower than those other bivalves (oysters clams) cephalopods (squids octopuses). average (0.013 mg·kg–1) that (0.018 mg·kg–1). MeHg concentrations also cephalopods.
